Cleaning is Good for the Soul

#5. Clear out RSS feed and keep only those blogs that I truly enjoy reading – DONE!

Yesterday, I spent the evening looking at every single item in my Google Reader and evaluating whether or not I truly enjoy reading it.

I started with over 400 subscriptions. 400. I KNOW! I could not BELIEVE I had so many in my reader. No wonder it took me so long to read everything each day! It was starting to become a job in and of itself.

There were still some feeds in there from when I first discovered blogging and subscribed to anything that seemed remotely interesting. I have recently had a “Come to Jesus” talk with myself – I realized that I don’t need to read about other people’s children poopy diapers or hundreds of wedding blogs [I’ve already planned my own wedding] or bunches of crafting pages that have projects too complicated or not in my taste.

So… drumroll please… we are now down to 300 subscriptions. YIPPEE!

It feels good to check another thing off my 101 in 1001 list. :)

  1. Congratulations. A 25% reduction is a lot.

  2. Doesn't it feel amazing! I spent my last plane ride reducing my gmail inbox from the high hundreds down to a dozen (which was easier than when it had been in the thousands). So much is written about uncluttering our closets and cupboards, but those of us raised with computers have a lot of electronic clutter - emails, photos, files, and too many blog feeds! It feels so good to simplify.

  3. I need to do this too, especially for blogs that don't have recent updates!

  4. Wow-you cut alot of blogs out! I probably need to do this too, but I'm nostalgic and keep holding on to them.

  5. I'm impressed! (This reminds me that I have been wanting to clear out some electronic clutter, too.) A 25% reduction is amazing!

But...how can you keep up with even 300? That sounds exhausting!
