Graceful Creative had a post recently about the 50 things decluttering challenge. I haven’t had a chance to read the book where she got her idea from but I think I want to take on this challenge.
The crazy thing about the challenge? You count every GROUP of things you give away as one thing – stack of magazines? One item. A bunch of shoes? One item.
SCARY.
Husband and I spent some time on Saturday morning clearing out the pit that is the storage room. Here’s what came out and went to a MBA friend of Husband’s [she has a new place and wanted stuff to fill it!]…
One - One foldable dorm room coffee table….
Two – one trash can…
Three – a shoe organizer…
Four – a drawer organizer…
Five – two Pyrex glass bowls…
Six – a teakettle…
Seven – two African-inspired masks that just did not fit our house’s theme…
Eight – cloth bowl thing that was used for decoration at the wedding…
Nine – two baskets…
Ten – two ice trays…
Eleven – two angel pictures that again, didn’t match the theme of the house once we decorated…
Twelve – two red pillows from the college years…
Thirteen – two striped pillows from the post-college apartment…
My apologies if any of these items we decluttered were presents, Mom or Nina. Seriously – we didn’t have the room for them!
This may take a while.
This is a great idea! We got rid of a ton of stuff when we moved to St. Louis, otherwise I'd be joining.
ReplyDeleteI've been doing the same thing! I came up with my own little declutter program, where I had to trash or donate 500 things. I didn't adhere to the group rule so strictly, though I did somewhat: ie stack of papers-1 thing, pair of earrings-1 thing, but then we had 4 used cell phones/4 old chargers, I counted that as 8 things because there were 8 physical things taking up space in my drawer. I think if you are a little less strict, you'll get to 50 (or more) sooner! So far, with my less-strict-but-not-unstrict-rules, I have trashed or donated or given away 323 things!
ReplyDeleteYou are so good getting rid of all that stuff! I did better this summer, but I'm sure there is more that could go! I will be happy to get all of my school stuff out of the basement next week! I've decided it's time to store more of it at school. Although there are certain items I always bring home every summer so that they don't disappear!
ReplyDeleteOoh - call me next time! I love cleaning! :)
ReplyDeleteBrittany - that's so awesome! Something for us to aspire to. :)
ReplyDeleteDecluttering feels SO good! Congrats!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fantastic idea! I'm always getting rid of clutter. It just drives me crazy!
