Our Impromptu Spanish Christmas Vacation – Day Eight in Nerja

On Wednesday morning, the group decided that we didn’t want to spend another long day in a car getting to another city without a whole lot of time to explore it. Instead, we slept in and decided to visit a little town only a half hour away from our condo.

 

 

We arrived in Nerja for some shopping around 11 am that morning. This is a small town along the Costa Del Sol, but it hasn't been discovered by the masses of tourists yet.

  

Our morning of shopping in the city center was productive – a tile sign for both of my in-laws, a beautiful ceramic plate that brother bought (we almost fought over it, because it was really pretty!) and then a small bookshop run by an old Englishman where we all found used books. Yay! Mine was Labyrinth by Kate Mosse. I’m really looking forward to another good series of historical fiction, which hopefully this will be!

Our third shop was a small clothing shop on a sidestreet where we almost didn't go in - it seemed too modern and not the hand-crafty type that we were looking for. But we found her - my Europe purse!!!

It's purple and sort of leathery looking. Love it. And on sale for only 30 euro!! Done. :)

Next was paella and sangria on the beach. Perfecto.

 

   

 

On the way back to the car, we stopped at the Balcony of Europe, this beautiful outcrop into the Mediterranean. Can’t you just imagine ladies in the early twentieth century walking along this promenade, looking at the gentlemen across the way, tipping their hats to the ladies and smiling in their direction?

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

  

 

Oh I was in love with this place!

Spending the day in Nerja, we had a wonderful quiet day in a small Andalusian town.
