I Wish I Could Have a Massage Every Day

flickr - o5com

I went for a massage tonight.

It was amazing.

My friend M gave me a gift card to Massage Envy for helping her out at her wedding. I had put it away and honestly forgotten about it until a few weeks ago.

After a crazy weekend of work stuff and lifting boxes and setting up booths and taking down booths, I decided that the knots in my back just had to go. Then I remembered the gift card and I was set!

They were able to get me in tonight, thank goodness. :)

I like how they sit down with you right when you get there to review your problem areas and if you have medical problems that would affect your massage.

Wow. This gal? AMAZING. I told her my problem areas and what I did all weekend and she said she wasn’t going to do a “frufu girly” massage because I need something more like what athletes get. Whatever, lady, just get these knots out!

Oh boy did she! I haven’t been this relaxed in weeks. I even took a picture of my relaxed face immediately post-massage and tweeted about it. I’m determined to keep it going!

Apparently, a massage once  a month can be submitted for reimbursement under a Flexible Spending Account (FSA). They also give you a discount on any additional massages you get if you’re signed up for the health and wellness program through them.

I have my doubts as to whether or not it’s covered, even though they said they haven’t had it declined. Sometimes they have to get a doctor to sign off, which I’m not surprised by. I think my doctor would approve it, but I’m not sure.

The damage? $49 a month – that is almost $600 a year. We definitely have other uses for the FSA money we put away, so I’m not sure. The idea of having a monthly massage to keep the stress level down really is appealing, even though the cost is kind of high.

Thoughts? Am I crazy to think about spending that kind of money on a massage?

  1. If I ever won the lottery, my big splurge would be a weekly massage.

  2. I love massages. And I don't doubt their ability to relieve stress (and stress is just plain bad for your health). But I would also be reluctant to pay for it every month... Unless I had a lot extra stowed away.

I don't know though - it sounds like such a nice, healthful treat for yourself! Could you do it every two months?

  3. I love massages too! I had no idea they could be submitted under a FSA! Great idea!

  4. @lifeofadoctorswife - I totally agree that stress is bad! I've got so much of it in my job right now that I'm leaning towards this!

Of course the therapist suggested I have one every four weeks - it helps get them business! But she does have a point that having it done regularly keeps you with fewer knots and that's always a good thing.

  5. Can you believe I've never had a massage? I don't really like when DH does it or even when the nail ladies do it so i've never had one! People tell me I'm missing out...but who knows..

  6. @Jen - you've never had a massage? Some people don't like them because they feel awkward with someone else's hands all over them. If you don't like it with DH doing it, you may not like a full body one! Maybe you should try it just once, just to see?

  7. Oooooh, I love massages! I've had one at Massage Envy and it was okay, but my allergies had my nose all stuffed up and I was having to breathe through my mouth which is awkward when someone is standing right over you :( I need to try again soon!
