Removing Excuses

You know how you can always talk yourself in or out of something?

I don’t know about you, but I can always convince myself that one more piece of candy won’t hurt my waistline or that the extra half hour of sleep is SO much more worth it than working out. Later on, those decisions always tick me off, because they really were the wrong decision.

Pinterest has a bunch of inspiration pictures that I’ve been pinning lately – they’re helping remove the excuses that I’ve thrown up to not run in the mornings. Like this one. Or this one. And this one just makes me laugh. I tried to insert the images here but Pinterest isn’t playing nice right now.

In any case, I’m trying to use these quotes to really remind myself why getting up at 6 am and walking/running 2.2 miles is a good idea. In the mornings, when no matter what I put on my body to clothe it for work, nothing is looking the way it should. I am not liking what I see in the mirror. And seeing a picture of me at the work event last week? Yuck. I want to scrub it from the internet.

So I am removing all excuses. I realized I didn’t have any comfortable work out shorts that weren’t inappropriately short to wear in public. So on Monday, I stopped by the thrift store on the way home and found some black work out shorts for $4. Awesome. That’s one excuse I can’t use – I have outfits to wear.

Another excuse is being tired in the mornings when the alarm goes off for the work out. So I need to be in bed by 10:30 pm and that means lights off – no more reading until 11:15 pm because I’m not tired yet. No matter how awesome the book is.

They say that nothing tastes as good as being skinny feels. I’m really trying to concentrate on that one and prevent myself from eating crap. I don’t know if it’s working. But there has to be a change. Something has to give.

One last quote I’m centering on? A year from now, you’ll wish you had started today. I so do want that. I’m starting today.

  2. Hey! It's the blogger formerly known as law school wife! I've been working out for 12 weeks TODAY and I can tell you that removing excuses is a FABULOUS way to get started!! Two years ago I joined a gym and was really into it for like, two months. Then the excuses set in: I was too hungry after work to go directly to the gym; if I went to the gym right after work and then had to cook dinner, dinner was served too late; the machines I wanted at the gym were broken; there were lines at the machines I wanted to use; I was worried I looked silly; it was hard to make myself get up and drive to the gym if it were cold/I was tired/etc. At the time, my conclusion was to quit working out, working out was not for me! But it turns out that I LOVE working out, I do NOT love the gym. I've started working out from home using DVDs. Sounds lame, but I have never been so motivated and felt so empowered to get fit, ever!! And it removes all of the excuses: I don't have to go anywhere, I can pre-heat the oven while I work out, no one is judging me, etc. I get all of my DVDs from the library except for one, which I bought at Half Price for $4. I've worked out 75% of the days since May 13. I'm seeing a difference in all areas: arms & shoulders, back, stomach, legs, bottom. It's incredible. Start today, remove those excuses, and find something you ENJOY :) You won't get up and run if you don't like to run. Last thought, working out in the morning absolutely doesn't work for me. I am not physically able to give it 100%. I'll cut reps and cheat more. So if I do it in the evenings, I get more out of my exercise. Maybe you are the same way :) Good luck and email me if you want any details on the videos I'm loving! Also collagevideo.com is a great resource for deciding which videos to use. Ok now really, good luck!

  3. Love it! I really need to print out those pictures and tape them to my alarm clock so I can get out of bed and work out in the morning too. I think I can, I think I can, I think I can!
